WHAT IS BOMA FLORIDA?

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Florida (BOMA Florida) consists of over 1,500 members representing the majority of office space and buildings in the State of Florida. This organization not only includes Owners/ Property Managers, but, various types of associate members servicing the commercial industry such as HVAC, engineers, carpet suppliers, roofing contractors, appraisers, painters, alarms,  lawyers, etc.

Through their business activities, members of BOMAFlorida represent the third largest sales tax-paying base in the State of Florida

BOMA Florida is federated with BOMA International, which was founded in 1907 and consists of 100 local associations whose members own or manage over 9 billion square feet of office space with over 19,000 members.

BOMA International is one of only 22 organizations to be appointed a position of the Federal Advisory Committee to develop recommendations to the Accessibility Board for use in all three National Model Building Codes.

H. LEE MOFFITT, ESQUIRE

H. Lee Moffitt has been working with the Florida Legislature in Tallahassee for 32 years. His law firm represents clients in Florida's state capitol to serve the needs of individuals and businesses impacted by the actions of the government.

Mr. Moffitt is a graduate of the University of South Florida (B.A., 1964), the Cumberland School of Law (J.D., 1967), and in 1985 received his Doctor of Humane Letters from USE. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1984 and within that time was Chair of the Commerce Committee (1978-1980), the Reapportionment Committee (1980-1982), and Speaker of the House (1982-1984).

In 1984, Mr. Moffitt founded the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, Inc. He is currently on the Florida I-4 High Tech Corridor Council and has served on numerous committees in the past including the Comptrollers Task Force on Regulatory Decoupling, Committee of 100 Tampa Chapter), Taxation and Budget Reform Commission, Speakers Committee on Florida's Future, Worldwide Unitary Tax Commission, to name a few. He has received many awards for his public service including the Allen Morris Award for the Most Effective Member of the Florida House of Representatives (1976 and 1982).

 

WHO IS OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR?

MELANIE SCHRUL

With over 12 years of association management experience Melanie brings knowledge and passion to associations. Melanie is the former Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Chapter of NAIOP and has served on numerous associations’ Board of Directors.

Melanie has worked as the Executive Director for BOMA Fort Lauderdale and The Palm Beaches for over 9 years and the Executive Director for BOMA Florida since 2006. She is responsible for the increased size, participation and notoriety of BOMA both state-wide and locally. She was instrumental in the BOMA Southern Region Conference in 2007 and has garnered several BOMA International Awards for Best Practices.

She is currently the Chair for BOMA International's Association Executive Council.

Melanie received her Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Social Sciences and a minor in Sociology from Florida Atlantic University. She continues to study for her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation through the American Society of Association Executives.
